Artists Statement

As a woven textile designer I use colours and different fibres to create a specific feel to a cloth. I am always drawn to the use of sheer fibres and the interaction of light, movement and shadow, particularly those used in interior spaces.

Colour directs my work, and it is important for me to be able to dye all my own specific colours, which relate back to my sketchbook observations.

More recently my interest has turned towards plant imagery, specifically Allium flowers and the defined shadows created by their seed heads.

I am enthralled by large open spaces of rolling countryside, the contours of the hills and the changing colours of the sky. I like to interpret landscapes and its formal dimensions through line drawing, paper dyeing and Ikat woven cloth.
